When my children were little my life took an unexpected turn. Two of my four children were diagnosed with life-threatening health conditions. My son endured 15 spine surgeries, and my daughter underwent 8 brain surgeries. Those years were spent in and out of hospitals, living in survival mode, and trying to hold it all together.
Amid the stress and exhaustion, I turned to convenience foods—fast, processed, and comforting in the moment but damaging over time. The weight piled on, and I felt worse than ever. Then, in 2014, a friend invited me to try a 21-day detox. Honestly, I was skeptical, but I was desperate for change. I wanted to lose weight, so I said yes.
The first week was tough as my body adjusted, but something amazing happened. By week two, I started feeling better—better than I had in years. I was sleeping deeply, waking up energized, thinking clearly, and, yes, losing weight. I shed 15 pounds in those first 21 days, but more importantly, I gained something priceless: the realization that food directly impacts how we feel, how we heal, and how we live.
That moment changed everything. I committed to a new way of living, embracing clean, whole foods and saying goodbye to processed junk. Over the next 8 months, I lost 85 pounds—and I’ve kept it off for 10 years. Today, I feel stronger, healthier, and more vibrant than ever.
